Forex Trading – The Role of Support and Resistance in Forex Trading

If you want to be a successful Forex trader, it’s important to understand all the concepts involved in Forex options trading, including support and resistance, two concepts that go hand in hand.

The Forex market is always on the move. It constantly moves up and then pulls back again. During this cycle, resistance is determined as the highest point reached before the market pulls back. Meanwhile, also during the cycle mentioned, support is determined as the lowest point reached before the market starts moving up again. With the help of your imagination, you could perhaps see that support and resistance are virtual waves that are continually created as Forex options trading bursts with activity and the market swings over time. These days, you can find many different expert opinions on how to plot support and resistance. One of the most popular and highly recommended means of doing so is the use of trend lines.

Most traders actually don’t know how to use trend lines properly, making this effective method one of the most underutilized forms of technical analysis in Forex options trading. If trend lines are drawn correctly, you can make the market match the lines, instead of the other way around (which is, in fact, a common mistake committed by many traders out there). It is important to plot support and resistance, whether through the use of trend lines or some other method, because it holds the key to spotting good and bad hits, allowing you to make profitable calls and avoid risks.

Increasing Your Forex Trading Knowledge

When you increase your knowledge and experience in forex trading, you will obviously also increase your opportunities to maximise profits and minimise losses in the activity. You will know the exact opportunity when to sell and when to buy the currencies being traded to accomplish this purpose, a skill that only the expert forex traders have mastered to a fine art.

Well, of course, becoming a master forex trader takes time, effort and money. The forex market is a complex, competitive and sophisticated system that demands full attention from the participants who desire maximum profits and minimum losses. In other words, forex currency trading is not suitable as a hobby, a pastime or a recreational means.

Lest you think, nonetheless, that forex trading is only for math geniuses and investment gurus, think again. We must all start somewhere and with forex, it starts with education followed by practice with dummy and live accounts. Lets discuss these aspects.

First, getting educated can mean two paths, namely, formal and informal. Formal education means enrolling in university classes dealing with finance with emphasis on the forex market and its related industries. Online sites also offer equivalent instruction with the benefits of learning at your own convenience.

Informal education about forex trading can take the form of do-it-yourself plans and mentor programs. Basically, you read a wide range of reading materials on the subject including books, journals and newspapers, of which there are plenty of specialised issues. If you can, you may also request for the assistance of an expert forex trader to establish a mentor-student relationship.

The best way to get educated about the forex market is a combination of both. Even when you are enrolled in a formal forex class, reading newspapers is a great way to keep updated about the market.

When you feel that you already know the basics by heart and you have the confidence to apply your newfound knowledge, its time to open a demo forex trading account. This is a baby step toward a live account in that you will hone your buy and sell strategies as well as your entry and exit tactics without losing any real money. You have the benefit of using the demo account for as long as you wish until such time that you feel comfortable gambling real money in the real world, so to speak.

We dont suggest lingering too long with a demo account, however, as real profits wait with the live trading account. You can always choose to play with a small amount of money on your first forays and then slowly build up your account as you gain more confidence in your trading skills. Slowly but surely on the profits, indeed.

Yes, forex trading may not be for everybody because of its rigorous demands and high risks but it can be for you, too. The trick is in learning and practicing the art and science of forex market trading.

Important Forex Trading Tips

Forex trading is recommended for people who are interested in the activities of trading forex as opposed to people who are more interested in making money. Emotions play a significant role in impacting the results. A person who is desperate to make money to settle his/her bills and payoff his/her mortgage is more likely to trade without any confirmed signals. You may consider becoming a full time trader once you have acquired the necessary skills. When you are just starting out, it is advisable to have another job that caters for your expenses. The most important tips in trading forex include:

Trade the signals as opposed to the trades

If you have had some successful trades and in the process grown your capital, it is very tempting to seek for more risks. In the process, you may end up taking the wrong signals. This is likely to result in you losing what you had gained from good trades. When handling a single trade it is important to forget previous trades, be they gains or losses. This will help you focus on the most important signals to make an informed decision. Furthermore, avoid making risks more than is necessary simply because you have more money and have been successful over the short past.

Being over-confident

Being over confident can have more serious repercussions than not having confidence. When you have no confidence, you end up doing nothing. However, when you are so sure of your actions without having any good signals can cost you a substantial amount of money. Making several good trades is not an indication that you are an advanced or professional trader. Likewise, making several bad trades does not mean you are a bad forex trader. It is important to manage you confidence levels in order to avoid the cycles of failure. Therefore, you need to analyze the market carefully to make the right decisions.

Avoid competing with other traders

Different traders employ different trading strategies and styles. This explains why the results are often different. Some of the traders may be willing to take a 2% risk for a 5% to 10% profit every month, while other traders may be willing to take more than 20% risk and seek to double their profits every month. It often takes time for a new trader to discover his own style of trading. Once he/she discovers the most effective style he/she should avoid finding out from other traders, how much they make.

Here Are 2 Forex Trading Strategies To Trade Forex

Forex Strategies

There are many Forex trading strategies you could and should employ to make sure you get the most from your money. Many Forex trading systems are well worn and they are known to work down to the nth degree. Of course this is what everyone wants in the long term. But what about some of the riskier trading strategies? Can you push the envelope to create your own personal strategy that will allow you to bring about a long term, sustainable strategy that will hold you in good stead?

Here Are 2 Forex Trading Strategies To Trade Forex:

1: Large Stop Loss

This strategy known as Large Stop Loss is a complete contradiction to the usual methods of profit given out by many Forex pros. But the fact is, it has worked to good effect and forever it has had some none believers shake their head in disbelief. The basic tenant is that you are trading with a stop of around the region of 500 pips. Scooping profits around 50 pips per position.

The basic difference between this and scalping is simple. Scalping the Forex market requires a quick in and out strategy. You get in, and you get out rapidly whilst scalping profits of around 5-15 pips each time. Therefore a large stop of 500 pips would be extremely difficult for price to knock out. The beauty of the Large Stop Loss is that newcomers don’t need to learn the quick expertise of safeguarding. In order to get in and out quickly. Of course the reward vs risk ratio is terrible. Around 10-1 in many cases. So therefore, the way to make money is to counter the reward to risk ratio with a higher win to loss ratio.

2: Scalping

Scalping as a trading strategy is basically trading short profit. It takes advantage of small price changes and you generally start after a trade has become profitable. The absolute key to this Forex strategy is having self discipline and a strict exit strategy. You can easily tap out with a single big loss and wipe the numerous small gains you have achieved. Your Forex education should start with a rudimentary knowledge of scalping. Since it is the most prevalent of all systems used with the world of Forex strategies.

So as you can see those are just two of the many Forex trading strategies and sub strategies. Used worldwide 24/7 to a greater or lesser effect. The main key element is of course, strategy, education, planning. Without those you are blindly trading. Without proper Forex research you may end up getting stung.

An Introduction To Forex Trading, And What You Need To Know

The word ‘Forex’ is a contraction of ‘Foreign Exchange’, and is interchangeable with ‘Foreign Exchange Market’ and ‘Currency Market’. At the simplest level Forex trading is about buying one form of currency, and selling it in exchange for a different currency, making a profit as you do so.

For example, if you purchase a sum of money in one currency, and then a few weeks later the exchange rate fluctuations mean that the value of that currency has grown relative to a different currency, then you might sell that sum in exchange for the other currency, effectively increasing the value of the sum you started out with.

Many people assume that to have any success with Forex trading you need a real understanding of how foreign markets work, of trading in currencies and of carrying out detailed financial research. In fact whilst this is all certainly true, there’s something else which is perhaps more important, and that’s simply an awareness of what is going on in the world.

If you read or watch the news, and have a reasonable idea of what’s happening politically in terms of the relationships between various countries then you have a sound basis for moving into trading in foreign currencies.

For example, if you had purchased a stock of Euros a few weeks ago you may well have watched the news and seen Greece’s financial problems escalating, and you may have guessed that this could have a detrimental effect on the value of the Euro in relation to the US dollar This would in turn have led you to convert your Euros to dollars. In fact Greece’s problems did result in a significant fall in the value of the Euro, and those who moved into a different currency early on made either the most profit, or the lowest losses.

But obviously whilst a sound understanding of how the behaviour of the leaders of various countries may affect the exchange rates, it is also important to have a sound understanding of how the foreign currency trading system works. There’s nothing like practical experience to help you achieve this, but practical experience can be expensive. That’s why it is often recommended that for anyone starting out in Forex Trading it is best to open a demo account and try your hand at virtual foreign currency trading. This allows you to gain practical experience without risking your own cash.

One thing which you will often hear is that Forex Traders have a gut instinct, and work very much on gut feeling. If you believe this then you’re best off forgetting foreign markets and instead take up Blackjack or Roulette.

Forex trading requires careful analysis, sound plans and specific goals, and it requires note taking and a good deal of learning from mistakes and successes. This is why it is particularly important to try virtual Forex trading before ‘spinning the wheel’ and losing large sums of capital you can’t afford to.

The Best Tactics For Short Term Forex Trading

In terms of being the best tactician in short-term forex trading, we recommend momentum trading and for good reasons, too. Its main aim is to achieve the profit target as soon as possible with as little risk possible under the volatile circumstances that surround each forex transaction. Basically, you take advantage of the momentum when it is on your side by entering the forex market either on a long or short basis.

You will require three kinds of moving averages to accomplish your purpose, namely, the moving average convergence divergence (MACD), the 100-day simple moving average (SMA), and the 20-day exponential moving average (EMA). You will see why later.

For the MACD, be sure to use the default setting on the 5-minute chart. Said default setting is: Signal ENA=9, First EMA=12, and Second EMA=26. To start on this short-term forex trading strategy, open the 5-minute chart and look for the right currency pair. This means the pair trading below the SMA and EMA. Take a look at the MACD histogram. You will enter into a long trade when the MACD starts turning positive but stay within 5 candles. Your stop loss margin must be positioned at the candles low point, which should be above the EMA and SMA.

You will exit half of your position the moment the trade changes in your favour but be sure that it is still within the amount risked. The other half of your position will follow a trailing stop within a -15 pips on the 20-day EMA. This forex trading tactic should pay off handsomely under the right circumstances.

Now, lets assume that that your chosen currency pair is trading in the opposite direction above the EMA and SMA that is. In this case, you must be patient and wait until such time that the currency pair is trading below both the EMA and SMA by 15 pips, minimum.

In reverse of the first situation, you will enter into a short trade with the MACD turning negative within 5 candles. (The first situation was go long on positive turn). Your stop loss is at the high point of the first candle breaking through the EMA and SMA. (In the first, it was at a low point). You will also exit half of your position with the other half set for a trailing stop at +15 pips on the EMA. Again, this forex trading strategy should be in your favour when you can closely monitor the charts.

There are other strategies for short-term forex transactions, of course. Two examples are the use of 2 charts, namely, the hourly and the 10-minute charts as well as the 200-bar MA. You can also explore these options but we recommend trying the momentum trading strategy first.
